MLB Records and Longest Hitting Streaks

Era: 1988-2025Source: Retrosheet play-by-playGames covered: 87,434

Baseball records re-derived from the complete Retrosheet play-by-play record of every regular-season game from 1988 through 2025: the longest consecutive-game hitting streaks, the best streak in each of the 38 seasons, and the single-season leaders for hits, home runs, doubles, triples, walks, RBI and extra-base hits.

Player-seasons cross-checked33,224

Coverage is the complete play-by-play era only: 1988 through 2025. Records from earlier baseball, including Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak of 1941, predate the event-level record and are not derived here. Where a page cites a pre-1988 mark for context, the citation is marked and sourced; it is never presented as derived data.

Streaks and totals are computed directly from the play-by-play events, one batting line per player per game, and every derived player-season total is cross-checked field-by-field against the independently staged season aggregate before the data ships. The exact rules, receipts and the building pipeline are described on each data page.
